5th Annual
Ayurvedic Training Workshops, India 2021
(Dates moved from Dec. 2020, due to previous travel restrictions to India)
Learn Ayurveda in Kovalam Beach, Kerala, India
Ayurveda, “Science of Life,” is the planet's oldest health-care system with historical roots in ancient India dating back thousands of years ago. The study and practice of Ayurveda is steadily regaining popularity in India and flourishing worldwide in different forms. This continuous growth of Ayurveda comes from a greater respect for the sophistication and effectiveness of the Ayurvedic approach to natural health-care. Unbeknown to most people outside India, this ancient system has detailed the pathologies of most diseases and outlines very precise, intricate and effective treatments.
These workshops are for those who want continuing education credits in Ayurveda to support their existing health-care practice or those who want to be certified to practice [clinical] Ayurveda in the West.
These workshops in India as well as pre-workshop self-study and case-study internships, support two Ayurveda Programs: Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant (ALC) (requireding 500 hours) & Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) (Requiring 1000 hours). The purpose and intention of these programs are to help fulfill a growing need for skilled and professional Ayurvedic practitioners, to address the plethora of health issues in modern society.
Note: These workshops are not insulated in the countryside, but in small, charming beach town with lots of friendly people and great sightseeing and shopping!

About the Programs
These intensive workshops are about learning the skills necessary to practice Ayurveda in a clinical environment based on traditional Ayurvedic principles (Charaka & Samhita), methodologies of treatment (kayachikitsa) as per Northern India, Ayurvedic herbology (dravyaguna) and Ayurvedic pharmacology (Bhaisajya Kalpanaa). Note: The northern Indian approach is almost entirely herbal compared with the southern or Kerala approach where abhyanga, the use of oils, sweating therapies, Shirodhara and panchakarma are the main methods of treatment. Thus, these workshops do not cover these physical forms of treatment or any form of bodywork, since a purely herbal and dietary approach is sufficient if the practitioner is skilled. The approach of being an Ayurvedic herbalist and dietitian without physically working with a patient works well in western countries and is easier from a licencing and private practice point of view.
"This teaching format is in the traditional teacher-student approach or gurukul in India for those who want hands-on training in Ayurvedic health-care (kayachikitsa) by experienced Ayurvedic Doctors and Vaidya. Most courses on Ayurveda are more focused on theory than clinical application, or too academic, with references to original sanskrit texts requiring an understanding of Sanskrit terminology. The goal of these workshops is to help [western] students and practitioners of Ayurveda to better grasp the functional and clinical applications of Ayurveda and provide a model of private practice.
Each full day, there are 5 hours of small group teaching with 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the late afternoon. The classes are straightforward and clear without much Sanskrit terminology using modern english textbooks by Vasant Lad, Atreya Smith and others.
"Being a small group and eating together provides an excellent environment for questions and open discussion. With panchakarma and prominent guest speakers each workshop is a deep immersion in Ayurveda." Khabir
