*  Prior training or knowledge of Ayurveda is required.

Ayurvedic Practitioner Program

This program, encompassing four workshops in India, is presented for those who are interested in, studying or actively practicing [clinical] Ayurvedic health-care. The approach and teachings are based on north Indian approach and methods of Ayurveda and based on Charaka and Susruta, along with recent textbooks such as Vasant Lad's, and western authors such as Atreya Smith.   (Thus, the use of oils, variants of massage, sweating therapies, Shirodhara, Kizhi and panchakarma as per southern India are not part of this program. )This teaching format is in the traditional teacher-student approach or gurukul in India, for those who want hands-on training in Ayurvedic health-care (kayachikitsa) by experienced and active Ayurveda Doctors and Vaidyas.  Most courses on Ayurveda are more focused on theory than clinical application, or exhaustive in terminology, requiring an understanding of Sanskrit. The goal of these workshops is to help students and practitioners of Ayurveda to better grasp the functional and clinical applications of Ayurveda so they can go into private practice.  (The classes are straightforward and clear without much Sanskrit terminology.)

"In this course, we immerse in traditional herbal formulas by discussing, tasting and even trying each formula.  To know an herb or a formula you have to feel it, and this type of immersion creates deep understanding that won't be forgotten..."  Khabir

Certificate of Achievement

Upon the successful completion of the workshop, a CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT for the course, Herbal Pharmacology & Traditional Formulas of Ayurveda with 250 hours of study (5o in India and 200 of prior self-study) will be provided and signed by Khabir Southwick, in collaboration with Dr. Arun Ambu Kakkathara of Kerala Ayurveda Vaidyasala.  The instructors and sponsors are pleased to provide this formal certificate course of study in Ayurvedic Healthcare. This course endeavors to provide a comprehensive and authentic, professional education for the health practitioner seeking to incorporate Ayurvedic medical principles into their existing practice, and those looking to enter the field of traditional Ayurvedic healthcare.  A personalized certificate will be presented on the closing day for graduates.*

After the successful completion of the 4th course, an additional 250 hours of verified course study and apprenticeship totaling 1000 hours and other requirements a certificate as a qualified AYURVEDIC PRACTITIONER will be issued with the approval of the instructor(s).

* These certifications can be used when registering with Ayurveda associations and guilds.

Herbal Pharmacology and Traditional Formulas of Ayurveda

- Dec. 1st to Dec 8th, 2019

Note: This is an advanced class which requires an excellent knowledge of the fundamentals of Ayurveda, including knowledge of the tri-doshic system, sub-doshas, gunas, dhatus, srotamsi, agni, ojas, ama, and other essential aspects of ayurvedic anatomy and functionality of the body as per Ayurveda.  Basic knowledge and experience of Ayurvedic diagnosis by observation, questioning and touching (feeling pulse) is also required.  Additionally, knowledge of the most common ayurvedic herbs (about 50) would be necessary before this course.   It is highly recommended to take the first three courses in this series before attending this course unless thorough prior knowledge and experience exists.

In Ayurvedic therapeutics, herbal pharmacology is given prime importance. There is a very well developed sub-discipline entirely devoted to drug formulations known as “Bhaisajya Kalpanaa”.

The Ayurvedic herbal formulas are like recipes for treating specific conditions and were carefully designed thousands of years ago. In this workshop, you will study the most popular classical formulations as outlined in the ancient Ayurvedic texts and learn to make herbal formulas based on the principles of combining herbs.  Khabir adheres to the authentic methodologies, so you will be trained in the most traditional art of Ayurvedic formulation making.

We will learn to formulate herbal formulas using 50 of the most common ayurvedic herbs to address doshic imbalances in the tissue (dhatus) and systems (srotomsi).  Twelve or more traditional Ayurvedic formulas will also be introduced.  Participants will role-play daily to practice prescribing herbal formulas for various conditions and imbalances.

"He is an eager learner and he is also a very good teacher.   Not only learner but [he is a] good teacher.  I have seen him teaching in Rishikesh and all the students have very good words for him.  I have seen the teachings myself.  Whatever topics he is teaching, I think they should be taught in all the Ayurveda institutes.  They should be covered by all the Ayurveda institutes, not only in America but also in India.   He is teaching in a very precise way and a very elaborate way at the same time.  That is very much practical knowledge that he is giving to his students.  I wish him very good luck for his future courses."   Dr. Vikram Chauhan, Founder – Planet Ayurveda Products, Planet Ayurveda Clinic, and Krishna Herbal Company, Chandigarh, India. More Testimonials

"Ayurvedic Classes In India: I have learned a great deal about Ayurveda in India form Khabir. I learned from several great Indian doctors one-on-one. I had time to get health treatments and they're very reasonable! Many of the treatments I still use to help keep a healthy balance. Classes started early at breakfast with questioning and reviews then regular topics with tea we continued until lunch break and time to shop. We meet at the ashram for dinner and more teaching that sometimes late into the evening. We also went several times to Herb shops to learn which herbs were the best for each constitution to restore balance. I brought back herbs, Indian jewelry, yoga bags, and clothes. The tests were hard for me with the doctors looking on, but I did very well and I'm grateful for the knowledge that I acquired. There is a nice graduation ceremony at the Ashram at the completion of each course. I help family and friends with my knowledge of anatomy physiology and diagnostic skills in Ayurveda. Khabir's assistant Jade was a big help. I made several friends, too. This is a lifelong study and I'm very grateful for this nice beginning. In my opinion, this is the best, fastest, and least expensive way of becoming an Ayurvedic Practitioner while having the experience of Indian Culture. I highly recommend it!  Sanjay D.
